The StabMaster™ pipe alignment system—the primary component of Weatherford’s patented* Stabberless® system—is a mechanical device that centers the pipe during stab-in. Before the power tongs are
applied for connection makeup, the StabMaster™ system is lowered and secured around the joint; alignment is remotely controlled from the rig floor, eliminating the need for a stabber in the derrick.
The StabMaster™ system employs the patented Stab Set TM memory feature. After determining the ideal stabbing position (where the connection rotates freely during connection makeup), the operator presses the Stab Set button to store the exact stabbing position in memory. After the connection is made, the StabMaster™ system retracts to a parked position. For each subsequent connection, the operator presses the Stab Return button to return the StabMaster™ system (and the joint) to the same position as before.
