ONGC completes 36 rig moves in advance of monsoon season
Energy and marine consultancy ABL successfully assisted India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) with moving 36 offshore drilling rigs to new locations in advance of the monsoon season.ABL have assisted as tow master and marine warranty service (MWS) provider on the rig moves, which equals the record of 36 pre-monsoon rig moves from 2021. The moves were conducted using ABL’s specialist team of mariners supported by structural and geotechnical engineers, in close cooperation with ONGC’s in-house rig move cell. Each of the 36 rigs were placed at their respective monsoon locations before the onset of the seasonal adverse weather conditions.
Odfjell Technology achieves significant time reduction in BOP cleaning trial
Odfjell Technology, an integrated supplier of offshore drilling, well and engineering services, has achieved 50% reduction in cleaning blowout preventers (BOPs) during a successful trial.Over a test period of six months, Odfjell Technology revised the procedure for cleaning the BOP on the Johan Sverdrup platform in Norway by increasing the pump rate to allow more water flow into the BOP cavities to aid debris removal. The annular and variable rams were flushed with two passes at the new recommended flow rates to remove debris, then the BOP stack was flushed at the same rate using Odfjell Technology’s RizeRdillo Advanced Jetting Tool.
Halliburton introduces ultradeep boundary mapping service
Halliburton Company introduced EarthStar X, a near-bit, ultradeep reservoir mapping sensor designed to increase well placement accuracy. The service helps users detect geological changes early, enabling quick well trajectory correction to remain in the most productive zones and maximize asset value. Integrated shallow resistivity measurements allow early reserves evaluation and accurate fluid characterization to further improve reservoir insight while lowering operational complexity and risks. The EarthStar X service accurately maps the geology in three dimensions using ultradeep azimuthal resistivity measurements and inversion processing to geosteer, geostop and geomap. Real-time fluid and bed boundaries visualization can place the well in the reservoir’s
Halliburton upgrades Norwegian Petroleum Directorate’s National Data Repository
Halliburton announced it has launched Diskos 2.0 National Data Repository (NDR) for the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate. Diskos 2.0 is the industry’s first fully cloud-native NDR implementation, according to Halliburton. The upgraded system, which stores critical exploration and production data, incorporates advanced automation and artificial intelligence capabilities to derive better insights from the data, reduce cost per byte, and improve scalability to handle over 28 petabytes of data, including a copy, in a multi-cloud environment.Diskos 2.0 connects to third-party services to add new functionalities. It allows members to instantly access the full range of seismic, well, and production data in a
New gas well boosts Neptune’s gas production in Germany
Neptune Energy announced first production from its operated Adorf Z17 gas well in the municipality of Georgsdorf, northwestern Germany. The Z17 well – in the Carboniferous formation – is expected to increase Neptune’s production from the Adorf license by 1,800 bbl of oil equivalent per day (BOEPD) to around 6,300 BOEPD.Construction of a dedicated processing plant at the site for treatment of the gas was also completed earlier this year.Neptune Energy’s Managing Director in Germany, Andreas Scheck, said: “The Adorf Carboniferous field development is one of Neptune’s most promising activities in Germany and demonstrates our desire to grow the business
Newly upgraded Njord field opens with ambitions for doubling its production
Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy Terje Aasland officially opened the Njord field in the Norwegian Sea on 15 May. The platform and the floating storage and offloading vessel (FSO) have undergone extensive upgrades and are expected to double the field life – and more than double production.“With the war in Ukraine, the export of Norwegian oil and gas to Europe has never been more important than now. Reopening Njord contributes to Norway remaining a stable supplier of gas to Europe for many years to come,” Mr Aasland said. The Njord field started production in 1997 and was originally supposed to
Oil States valve technology reduces grease contamination, manual intervention
With its Active Seat Gate Valve technology, Oil States International aims to reduce the amount of heavy grease used during valve operations on a hydraulic fracturing site, as well as the amount of personnel intervention needed at the wellhead, boosting safety and efficiency in frac operations. DC spoke with Patrick McKeever, Regional Sales Manager at Oil States, about the valve on 1 May at the 2023 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), where the company was honored with a Spotlight on New Technology Award for the valve.(2023-05-10)
OTC workshop puts Texas teachers up close and personal with oilfield innovations
On 4 May, teachers from elementary, middle and high schools around Southeast Texas came to OTC for a workshop to learn about the oil and gas industry. They were able to engage in discussions with industry professionals about key energy issues, as well as tour the OTC exhibition floor to see new technologies being deployed in the oilfield, including those incorporating AI and robotics. In this video, DC speaks with representatives from Saudi Aramco, which sponsored the workshop. Some of the teachers in attendance also shared their insights on how their students view the future of energy, and how they
