Nabors, Hess convert Bakken rigs to highline power

Nabors has successfully converted all four of its Hess Corporation drilling rigs working in the Bakken to highline power. The company installed its Canrig PowerTAP Highline Power Transformer Module to enable direct power from the utility grid. Backup onsite generators ensure power goes uninterrupted should an outage occur.Over the next five years, Hess expects this fully electric Bakken drilling fleet will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its Bakken drilling operations by approximately 50% and energy costs by approximately 70%. Powering drilling operations with electricity also reduces noise and truck traffic.Hess said during the project’s pilot in 2022, the use of

SABER, an RSS alternative, completes downhole testing in operational environment

Enteq Technologies announced a significant milestone for the SABER (Steer-At-Bit Enteq Rotary) tool, the company’s alternative to traditional rotary steerable systems (RSS). In recently completed downhole drilling testing, the system proved to be effective in an operational environment. The trials took place at the Catoosa Drill Test Facility in Oklahoma, following initial testing in Norway earlier this year. During an extensive drilling program, the SABER system met the test objectives, successfully generating steering forces to change the trajectory of a well (generating dogleg) in typical reservoir rock conditions. An independent survey has been conducted to measure the well trajectory, and an

Borr Drilling awarded new contracts in Middle East, Southeast Asia

Borr Drilling secured two letters of awards for its Gerd and Thor jackups in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, respectively. These awards increase the Company’s firm backlog by approximately 421 days, excluding optional periods. The contract for Gerd comes from an undisclosed operator. This contract will cover a firm scope of 270 days, with one unpriced optional scope of 60 days. The jackup will conclude its current contract with Addax in Q3 2023, following a decision from the operator of that contract not to proceed

Halliburton launches new casing annulus packer to prevent sustained casing pressure

Halliburton introduced Obex EcoLock, a new compression-set packer that helps prevent sustained casing pressure (SCP). The company said that the packer “serves as a cost-effective mechanical barrier to mitigate low pressure gas or fluid migration and deliver isolation assurance.”The packer is built upon Halliburton’s gas-tight, V0-rated Obex GasLock packer design. The Obex EcoLock packer provides V6-rated isolation and can support multiple-stage cementing with optional integral cementing ports and an internal closing sleeve. It is currently available for 7-in. and 9 5/8-in. casing designs with additional sizes in the future.“Obex EcoLock is an excellent economic alternative to inflatable and expandable packers

ExxonMobil to boost CCS assets with Denbury acquisition

ExxonMobil announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Denbury, an experienced developer of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCS) solutions and enhanced oil recovery. The acquisition is an all-stock transaction valued at $4.9 billion.“Acquiring Denbury reflects our determination to profitably grow our low-carbon solutions business by serving a range of hard-to-decarbonize industries with a comprehensive carbon capture and sequestration offering,” said Darren Woods, Chairman and CEO. “The breadth of Denbury’s network, when added to ExxonMobil’s decades of experience and capabilities in CCS, gives us the opportunity to play an even greater role in a thoughtful energy transition,

Deepwater well stimulations completed in US Gulf using Trendsetter’s STIM

Trendsetter Engineering recently completed two deepwater well stimulation campaigns for major operators in the US Gulf of Mexico. These two campaigns resulted in the successful acid treatments of a combined six wells. The wells ranged in water depth from 6,500 ft to 7,200 ft.These campaigns comes on the heels of a contract agreement to deliver hydraulic intervention and technical services via the Subsea Tree Injection Manifold (STIM) for a Hydrate Remediation and Flowline Flush Project in the Gulf of Mexico. The Trendsetter STIM offers a 15,000-psi rated subsea safety system designed to provide hydraulic well access for both vertical and horizontal

Petrobras aims to accelerate decision making with investment in SLB digital platform

SLB has been awarded a five-year contract by Petrobras for an enterprise-wide deployment of its Delfi digital platform. The contract scope covers Petrobras’ digital transformation from exploration, development and production operations, including moving subsurface workflows to the cloud to accelerate decision making. The award represents one of Petrobras’ largest investments in cloud-based technologies and sets the foundation for it to achieve its decarbonization and net zero targets.“By leveraging AI, machine learning, and high-performance computing technology from SLB, Petrobras will drive aggressive efficiency and production increases across its E&P business,” said Rakesh Jaggi, President, Digital & Integration, SLB. “Leveraging the Delfi

Reliance, BP start production from deepwater field in India’s KG D6 block

Reliance Industries and BP confirmed the start of production from the MJ field offshore India, following testing and commissioning activities. The MJ field represents the last of three major new deepwater developments the RIL-BP consortium have brought into production in block KG D6 off the east coast of India. The start of gas and condensate production from the MJ field follows the start-up of the R-Cluster field in December 2020 and Satellite Cluster in April 2021. All three developments utilize the existing hub infrastructure for the block.Together, the three fields are expected to produce around 30 million standard cu m/day of
